According to the artist: Waterfall 2 holds light and space at the top of the canvas. The
bright white brush stroke on the left side falls strongly into that dark area,
activating the light blue arc so it can lift into the field and dissolve. I
don’t think the arc would be held in this balance quite the same if those two
strokes didn’t juxtapose in this way. The drop of the white stroke and the lift
of the blue one create a suspension that feels very free to me.
