Norman Mooney

Norman Mooney is an Irish-born artist who explores the infinitesimal possibilities of natural formations, such as blooms, starbursts and the butterfly effect among other forms that are found in the natural and scientific worlds. Born in Dublin in 1971, he earned his BFA from the National College of Art and Design and later participated in the prestigious Third-Degree program at the Irish Museum of Modern Art before relocating to New York City in 1994. Mooney begins with drawing, translating a plethora of natural forms into three- dimensional sculptures created with natural and/or industrial materials. His installations range from intimate to monumental and have been exhibited internationally, with notable commissions at institutions including the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, the Speed Art Museum, and the Taikang Wuyuan Art Museum in Shanghai.
